Matthew 2:1 How did the Magi know
I have always wondered about this story.
How did the magi know?
Where is it written that a star will mark the birth place of the savior?
Were there any other signs to them besides a star -- it seems to me that if I noticed a new bright star in the sky I would think about the sky, not about the birth of a king.
Here's one website that I found: Christmas Star

Thank you for the information about the star. One can not discount the
fact that all through the bible their are events that can not be explained by fact, or historical documentation.
If we were able to follow the wisemen back to the east we would learn the "rest of the story" What did the wisemen do after returning? I would image seeing the baby king. Knowing he was a the king. Changed their lives.
True, however, returning to the point of matthew -- the book was written to express the fulfillment of prophecy. Many scholars point to Daniel, but I haven't understood the reference.
There are many astrological explainations for the appearance of the star and many people have studied it. I have more reading to do before I report back.
